Awareness comes in many packages and this month I’d like to help spread awareness of Sjögren’s Syndrome. There are so many courageous women that I know currently living with this slowly progressive autoimmune disorder that most commonly affects the natural production of tears, saliva and for women, vaginal lubrication.
Throughout the entire month of April, the Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation will be sharing 30 tips for living with Sjögren’s on social media. Follow their Facebook and Twitter pages to see a new tip each day.
About Sjögren’s Syndrome
With a ratio of 24 to 1, women are 24 times more likely to be diagnosed with Sjögren’s then men. The symptoms often start between 40-60 years of age, during the peri and post-menopausal stage for women. But it has also been seen in women as early as in their 20’s and 30’s.
Treatment for Sjögren’s focuses primarily on the dryness of the eyes and mouth. Neglected is the vaginal dryness that the majority of female patients also experience. This vaginal dryness is debilitating and painful, making intercourse difficult for both partners.
Doctors have suggested using a lubricant to help relieve the vaginal dryness and moisturize the vaginal wall. But not just any lubricant. Avoid lubricants with a jelly-like consistancy, they tend to clog the pores and obstruct the vaginas natural cleansing. Also, avoid water based lubricants because their benefits are only short-term and often leave you feeling dryer then before you used it.
The most recommended long-lasting solution would have to be Vaginal Renewal Complex. When used to coat the internal wall, it absorbs into the tissue and helps keep the area lubricated naturally, making intercourse more comfortable (for both partners).
Once you begin the program, I suggest using VRC to coat the outer wall of the vagina (the vulva) as well. It’s quite healing. Just like we have to moisturize our outer body, we need to be kind to our inner body as well.
“I am converted! I have used Vaginal Renewal just three times and I feel so much better”. ~ S.M. (one of our Sjögren’s Syndrome users)
