Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday; I take out all my best china and serving pieces, prepare my menu (which I make from scratch). With the start of preparation and a glass of wine in my hand, I put my music on and go to work. This takes about three days.
It’s a time when family gets together. I have a large family and a lot of grandchildren, so we start early around 1:00 and invite all my friends, who go to relatives later in the day, to join us for cocktails. What could be better?
Growing up on Long Island our house was the center of the family. My grandparents lived with us and all the major holidays were spent at our home. After we ate and waiting for desert to be served, we used to play charades. Braking up in two groups, fighting for the best to be on your team, we all played; children, uncles, aunts, grandparents. We all laughed, it was perfect. That’s what Thanksgiving meant to me.
We had a hard start to the holiday season this year with the catastrophic hurricane Sandy. My heart goes out to all of you who lost your belongings or even worse your homes. I wish you a safe warm place to celebrate.
My wish to everyone; keep your body healthy AND your mind positive.
HAPPY THANKGIVING ~Olga
