We Need To Talk | Tell Us Your Story

womenVaginal Dryness; oh, I said it!!  I think we all  need to talk about this more. So many women, after they tell me their story, want to know if other women complain about the same issues.

We need to TALK!! We need to let other women know that our feelings and our symptoms are shared.

While reading an article in Huffpost last week, it occurred to me- How is it that we can talk for hours about shoes but not about Vaginal Dryness?

We know that Vaginal Dryness is usually caused by a decrease in estrogen. But there are so many reasons that can cause our estrogen levels to fall.

Postmenopausal Bleeding | Dr. Greene

So I get this call from Estonia ? Does anyone know where Estonia is? Well anyway it’s 2:30 Sunday morning and my pager goes off.

UterusMy darling patient is in Estonia for a wedding and while there she has an episode of bleeding. Not too much but bright red. No cramps or symptoms of her period of course because she is 55 and postmenopausal. Pretty sure I mentioned that. She was alarmed and wanted to know what to do.

So what is postmenopausal bleeding?

  • How do you define it?
  • What does it mean?
  • What should you as a patient do?

Postmenopausal bleeding: Any bloody discharge large amount or
small amount, one year or longer after menopause.

The Forgotten Side Effect of Menopause: Vaginal Dryness

Every morning by 8:30 a.m. (EST) I open my computer and scan the internet for my daily dose of the latest Menopause News.  I love reading the articles, seeing the videos and hearing the shared stories.  I have been one of the lucky ones to have several of my articles, as well as some of my guest bloggers published amongst them.

Menopause Side EffectsToday as I logged on, the first headline I  read was “Seven natural remedies to combat and alleviate the unpleasant side effects of Menopause”, by HuffPost UK Lifestyles.  To my surprise they listed hot flashes, mood swings, insomnia, and weight gain as the most common symptoms of menopause.

What’s wrong with this picture?!! Nowhere does it include vaginal dryness as a side effect.  Ironically I was interviewed a while ago, by Huffington Post, about this very topic and how 1 out of 3 women are impacted by the debilitating condition of vaginal dryness. But it still doesn’t make “the list” .
